one thing I learned, people will do what ever they can to make you feel like you 10 inches tall. but it up to you to feel that way. like marriah carey said in her song you can say what ever you want to said, i will not let you take that away from me. so your self esteem belong to you, no one can take it onless you give it up, what I mean by give it up. may be expain by the french proverb " qui veut son respect se le procure" I you repect your self you have to hold your head up and hight no oen can make bow it onless you agreed with them .

I see how one would feel about themselves...

Re: Self-esteem? Not In This Chritian World

O.K, most people have low self-esteem that is understood.

Considering the fact that we are human, we acquire a nature to feed our ego which inflates self-importance and superiority verses other people.

We can agree that money, power, beauty are tree things by which ego flourishes.

If we ought to empower others to love themselves and raise self-esteem, we would have to first change the traditional materialistic values which is deeply embed in society.

It is clear that many of the points that contribute to low self-esteem have to do with having more than other people ei. Keep up with the Jones, talking about monitorial value of possessions, and social class’s achievements and barriers.

Second, remove the general dictation of beauty.

I am sure that every one has there own preference and ideal of what is beautiful, but the dictation of society in live is unavoidable.

It compels us to relate and to compare between one self and the given qua. Unfortunately, many of us do not fit the status qua. Especially women, to be more specific I am referring to black women with dark ebony completion.

How can we empower then, when society it self dictates they are at extreme ends of beauty scale.

These women being part of society then-selves believe and follow the norm. Far-worst, they pass this dictation down to the next generation.

And, the vicious cycle continue.

Jesus Christ tells us to leave every thing behind and follow him.
Shed ones self of all worldly possessions, deflate ones ego to humility, become humble and love other people?

What?

Not in this Christian world.

Hi Nadine,

I read your comment about Self Esteem and I wanted to comment on it.

We leave in a world where many people get supper rich by telling us what is cool, what kind of car to drive to be cool, what clothes to wear to be cool, what size once has to be to be pretty, what, what, what...

It is a big ad campaign!

and we fall prey to it. Very few people are not influences by advertising, they do not realise that all your live someone is telling you what to do, what to buy, what to wear, where to live.

and those who do not, I guess, seem to have a higher level of self esteem because they become a part of the other group, the trend setters, if you will allow the expression.

I am me, I love me, I don't care what the world thinks.

Hello Sam I am;
I was please to see a response to my comment on self-esteem?

Not in this Christian world.

To attack the issue of self-esteem, we need to understand that people don't just decide to have low self-esteem.

This is some thing that is deeply embedded in our thoughts.

The self-esteem pattern is acquired trough experience with the world as a child.

We grow-up believing what parents, teacher, pears, colleagues, religious figures and the media tell us. The same way we develop stereo types and labels of certain people.

I am afraid that religion is the number one authority utilized to justify the dictation of morality, superiority and decency, example; the three major religions governing the world today Christianity, Judaism and Musluman.

Just look at the killing, the hatred and destruction of humanity all with only one justification "to proclaim superiority imposed on the leaders by God"
In other words, clinging to superiority by posing inferiority on the other.

The same way many of us fight low self-esteem by pointing out the differences of others and of course, pressing this entitlement or worthiness from God. Thus, implying to those less fortunate are not worthy of the grace of God, therefore labeled inferior.

With this point of view materialism arises.

In this Christian world we find our self keeping up with the Jones to proof that we are worthy of the grace of God.

Ask those that commit suicide how low and unworthy they felt as a Christian before the thought of suicide?

I think this is a wonderful piece.

This article is powerful in that sense it does no check-up for you.

It gives you the tools to check up yourself when it comes to self-esteem.

Another interesting feature of this piece is that:you don't have to agree with every single line.

But you will find enough to shake your mind and make you think.

Surely, that is a wonderful thing!

Harry
